Introducing Dr.BooBoo

A Story from
Dr. Googie's desk!

A Preface by Mom

“Austin was diagnosed at two years old at The Marcus Autism Center. He did ‘Babies Can’t Wait’ along with private therapies. He was 0.1% for speech when he was first diagnosed. After lots and lots of therapy and hard work, his speech is now completely in the normal range.
We first came into contact with Humorology Atlanta HA! when Austin had his first appointment with Dr. Rubin at CHOA Hughes Spalding. It was a looooong day (eight hours!), and HA’s Dr. CloFlo and Dr. Noobie came in and completely turned Austin’s day around. My oldest was there too, and he loved it. It made that very long day a lot more bearable.” - Jennifer (Austin’s Mom)

The Story

Today, Dr. DD and me (Dr. Googie) are seeing eight-year-old Austin with his mother, Jennifer, who remains just off-camera for most of the encounter. Our Humorologists have seen Austin at other Nose to Nose Virtual Visits. He has autism and has come a long way since being diagnosed at two years old, but he still has over-excitement and attentiveness issues. For example, in a recent encounter, he became so excited about showing off his new lightsaber that he paid little attention to the clowns.
After our introductions, Dr. DD proposes that we have a drawing contest between Austin and Dr. Googie! After securing some paper and his enormous bag of crayons, the contest begins. Dr. DD thinks up different things to draw.
The first object is “basketball.” Austin draws a compelling basketball while I draw a box. Austin wins that round.
The second object is “airplane.” Austin sketches an outstanding airplane, even adding flames coming out of the back! I draw a smiley face with wings. Austin wins round two!
Finally, Dr. DD instructs us to draw “a clown”! Austin draws an amazing image of a blue bunny character with a clown nose, rosy cheeks, enormous red collar, a pet dog, and a colorful confetti wand! We ask him questions about this character (which he is creating on the spot!), and his answers become more and more detailed. We discover that his name is Dr. BooBoo, and he has his own website. When he shakes the confetti wand, a huge plume of the paper stuff shoots out and defeats all his enemies! His nickname is Clowny, and he D.J.s for weddings and parties. Austin wins the game!
